A series of strong aftershocks jolted Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday, triggering landslides in PoK and panic among survivors.

There was no damage to life and property.

At least five temblors rattled the region in the early hours prompting the people to rush out of their makeshift homes.

A 5.8 magnitude aftershock struck 129 kilometers north of Islamabad, near the epicentre of the big quake, causing a landslide in Balakot that blocked roads to nearby Mansehra where relief operations were underway.

Another 5.6 trembler in the same area followed it after about 45 minutes, according to the US National Earthquake Centre.

However, the Indian Meteorological Department put the magnitude of the aftershocks at 5.3 and 5.4 on Richter scale respectively.

Two moderate intensity aftershocks of magnitude 5.2 rattled the Kashmiris out of their sleep at two minutes past midnight and at 0234 IST.

Another moderate tremor epicentred in Pakistan measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale occurred at 1047 IST, the IMD said.

Hundreds of aftershocks have struck the region since the October 8 quake, which claimed at least 50,000 lives in Pakistan, PoK and Jammu and Kashmir and left an estimated 3.3 million homeless.
