J&K governor, leaders express condolences

Jammu and Kashmir Governor S K Sinha and leaders of various political parties in the state on Saturday expressed grief over the deaths caused due to the massive earthquake. The Governor, who was on a visit to Baramulla when the state was rocked by tremors, said his heart goes out to those who have lost their near and dear ones in the nature's fury.

Conveying condolences to the bereaved families, Sinha said he was relieved to learn that all out efforts were being made to provide relief to the people. Cutting across party lines, leaders of various political parties expressed shock over the loss of life and property in the state due to the earthquake.

Moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq appealed to the people to unite in this hour of grief and extend wholehearted support and assistance to those in distress. Opposition National Conference leaders, including former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and party chief Omar Abdullah, said they were with the people at this time of grief and asked affluent people to help the victims.

Expressing shock and grief over the loss of lives and damage caused by the earthquake, J and K Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Peerzada Mohammad Syed assured full assistance to the affected families.

CPI (M) state secretary and legislator M Y Tarigami said he shares the misfortune of the quake victims and demanded immediate relief to the families of the deceased. People who have suffered huge damages should be rehabilitated, he said.
