Barely 20 kilometres away from Uri town in north Jammu and Kashmir. where normal life has resumed after the killer quake, people in Chakoti in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir were still 'begging' from Pakistani soldiers for food, claims Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, a separatist organisation.
According to Shabir Chaudhary, chairman of JKLF's diplomatic committee, during volunteers' visits to Chakoti, the team witnessed some ugly scenes, where earthquake victims were begging for food and Pakistani soldiers on duty took no notice of their pleas.
There were more than hundred people of different age groups who were showing their frustration and anger, and speaking against the men in uniform. The JKLF team was told that they had been queuing there for the past three days but had not received any food.
Moreover, Pakistani soldiers were also not sympathetic to them. "We have lost our loved ones in the earthquake and are starving and shivering because of lack of relief aid. But apart from food, we have to think of honour and dignity of our women," said one victim.
The JKLF has promised to return with all necessary essential items to ensure their survival during the harsh winter ahead, he said.
