It's Azad's Kashmir now
56-year old Azad is a veteran Congressman and a known Gandhi-family loyalist. He hails from Doda district in Jammu and began his political career from college in Srinagar. In 1975, he became president of the Youth Congress in Srinagar and has been known as a grassroots worker.
In the 1970s, he came in close contact with Sanjay Gandhi, from where his close association with the family began. He rose fast in the party and has held several key posts in the party and government.
