A special court in Bangalore has issued notices to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and four others in connection with two disproportionate asset cases filed against them.

Judge A S Pachhapure issued notices on Tuesday to Jayalalithaa, Sashikala Natarajan, V N Sudhakaran and J Ilavarasi in the Rs 66.65 crore asset case and to T T V Dinakaran in a case related to the purchase of a hotel in London.

The court has posted the case for hearing on March 14.

The Supreme Court transferred the cases to the special court in 2003, on a plea by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam that a fair trial was not possible in Chennai.

About 17,000 pages of documents pertaining to the cases reached Bangalore last September. They were translated from Tamil to English to set the stage for commencement of the trial.

Karnataka appointed B V Acharya, a senior counsel, as prosecutor for the cases.
