People ran towards the railway station with children and whatever belongings they could hurriedly gather. All assurances about this being only a rumour did not help and the situation deteriorated into utter chaos.

Locals said the narrow lane leading from their homes to the main road could not accommodate so many people, which led to the tragedy.
