The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday filed a chargesheet against Amit Jogi, son of former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi, and 30 others in connection with the murder of Nationalist Congress Party leader Ram Avtar Jaggi on June 4, 2003.

Amit, who was arrested by the CBI on July 1, has been accused of murder and criminal conspiracy in the 1500-page chargesheet filed by CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police A G L Kaul in a CBI court in Raipur, Chhatisgarh.

Amit, who underwent a lie detection test by the CBI, has been charged with being the mastermind behind the murder, which sparked a political storm in Chhattisgarh ahead of the assembly polls in 2003.

Of the accused, Amit and Chiman Singh are in judicial custody while three police officers, including station house officer of Raipur Kotwali, Viswakumar Pandey, were arrested in connection with the case on Thursday night. Pandey was produced in the court on Friday, and was sent to judicial custody till July 29.

The CBI chargesheet has been divided into three parts, with the first one dealing with those who hatched the criminal conspiracy and killed Jaggi.

The second part deals with all those, including three police officials, who wanted to destroy the evidence and foist a false case to save Amit and the others.

The last part in the chargesheet talks about those who sought to own responsibility for Jaggi's killing in return for monetary consideration.
