With heavy snowfall bringing life to a standstill in Jammu and Kashmir, people have turned their ire on the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government for its inaction in supplying essential commodities.
Residents of the summer capital built snow effigies of Sayeed, his daughter and ruling People's Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti and other senior ministers as a mark of protest.
In downtown Srinagar, the residents built the Chief Minister's effigy to make it a target in their snowball contest.
Similar effigies were seen at uptown Natipora, Barzalla, Chanapora, Jawahar Nagar and Bemina.
People took to snow-bound roads at many places and shouted slogans against the PDP-Congress coalition government.
"This government is using radio for making false statements regarding the availability of the essential commodities in the Valley. These goods might be available in the houses of the ministers and bureaucrats but we have not seen anything in the market," Abdul Ahad Dar, who lives near the chief minister's residence at Nowgam, told PTI.
Cooking gas, vegetables, milk, medicines, kerosene, petrol and diesel have vanished from the markets soon after the snowfall, he claimed.
Although there has been no fresh snowfall for the past 24 hours, the administration has failed to clear the roads of the snow, resulting in extreme difficulties to the public.
