Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz was arrested in New Delhi on Thursday evening on charges of possessing fake currency.

Aziz, chairman of Hurriyat constituent People's League, was nabbed when he was coming out of the Pakistan High Commission, Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Karnal Singh said.

He said Rs 1,00,000 in 1000-rupee fake notes was recovered from Aziz along with 94,000 Dirhams (approximately Rs 12 lakh).

Aziz is considered to be a pro-Pakistan hardliner and was earlier arrested under Public Safety Act.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani condemned the arrest of Aziz and said he might have been framed.

"Whenever there is talk of improvement in Indo-Pak relations, the government indulges in such acts against Kashmiri leaders," he said.
