Fifteen persons have succumbed to the piercing cold wave in the region so far as another person fell prey to it in Ambala Monday, even as normal life which had been thrown out of gear for five successive days in the northern region limped back to normal as the fog lifted.
A body of a female, presumed to be a beggar, was found at Ambala city railway station Monday, a report from Ambala said.
With this, three persons have succumbed to cold in Haryana, while 12 people have lost their lives to it in Punjab.
Meanwhile, though the minimum temperatures rose slightly at some places, including Chandigarh, cities like Jalandhar continued to be in the grip of intense cold recording a low of 0.4 degree celsius while Amritsar also saw no let up with a low of 1.8 degree celsius, three degree less than normal.
Ludhiana and Patiala registered respective minimums of 4.9 degree celcius and 5.6 degree celcius, both down by a degree each.
Jet Airways resumed its flights from Delhi to Chandigarh after the weather cleared up in Delhi, but an Air Deccan official in Chandigarh, however, said they would not be operating their Delhi-Chandigarh-Jammu flight owing to "bad weather conditions in Jammu".
Reports reaching Chandigarh said that rail and road traffic at most places in Punjab and Haryana, which had been badly hit due to fog over the past few days, was plying normally.
The visibility which had been hovering to near zero at many places in the region improved Monday as the fog lifted.
Ambala and Hisar in Haryana recorded minimum temperatures of 6.3 degree celcius and 5.9 degree celcius respectively.
