The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day as the entire opposition disrupted the proceedings demanding that the adjournment motions tabled by them on different issues be taken up.
Speaker K R Suresh Reddy adjourned the assembly four times during the day as the main opposition Telugu Desam, as well as Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Communist Party of India-Marxist, Communist Party of India, Majlis-e-Ittehaadul Muslimeen and Bharatiya Janata Party insisted that their motions be taken up setting aside the agenda.
As soon as the Assembly sitting began in the morning and the speaker announced that the six adjournment motions tabled by different parties were disallowed, agitated members of these parties stalled the question hour.
TDP members insisted that the House take up the issue of steep rise in the prices of essential commodities. Communist Party of India-Marxist wanted the House to discuss the problems of families displaced by Polavaram project.
CPI demanded that the House take up the incident of police lathicharge on students at Tirupati.
TRS tabled the motion on adverse impact of Pothireddypadu head regulator on irrigation projects in Telangana.
The BJP raised the issue of slow progress on Telangana projects. MIM sought to raise the issue of alleged harassment of mosque committees by municipal authorities.
Repeated attempts by the speaker to restore order in the House did not yield results. Finance and Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah said the government was willing to discuss all issues concerning the people. He advised the opposition parties to raise the issues under different rules of assembly but his plea went unheeded.
