Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu is hopeful that Pakistan government will soon release Sarabjit Singh, awaiting a death sentence for his alleged role in bomb blast cases in Pakistan.
Speaking to rediff.com on Wednesday, the former cricketer, who played a major role in bringing Sarabjit Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur to Delhi and arrange a meeting with External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh, is confident that the issue would be resolved once Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh takes it up with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.
"We had a good meeting with External Affairs minister Natwar Singh on Tuesday. Dalbir Kaur was very satisfied with the meeting," he told rediff.com.
Asked if he planned to meet President A P J Abdul Kalam to seek his intervention, Sidhu said, "We have been assured that Dr Singh would speak to Musharraf," he added.
