On November 5, 1994, Reagan wrote a letter to America, declaring he had Alzheimer's disease, which concluded with the sentence: 'I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright dawn ahead.'

May 4, 1992. Reagan greets former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and his wife Raisa (partly seen) on their arrival at the Reagan ranch in Santa Barbara, California. It was Gorbachev's first visit to the US after he stepped down as president of the former Soviet Union.
