Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmed on Thursday said that Pakistan was justified in starting the Kargil war and called upon the military to take a bold stance on Kashmir, reports the Daily Times, Lahore.
"I personally believe that the Kargil operation was a right decision whether it was taken by General Pervez Musharraf or former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif," Qazi, an opposition member of the National Assembly, told reporters at Parliament House.
Pakistan should relinquish its defensive stance on Kashmir and adopt an aggressive policy, he said, and stressed that the Pakistan Army should start another Kargil-like operation to press India to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.
The MMA president said there was no possibility of the formation of a judicial commission on Kargil as long as an army man was the country's president. President Musharraf was constrained by the 17th Amendment to retire from the army uniform by December 2004, he added.
He also criticised Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri for not discussing the fencing of the Loc with his Indian counterpart Natwar Singh during their recent meeting in Islamabad.
After the election of Shaukat Aziz as prime minister, Pakistan would be ruled by two non-politicians. He also said Islam did not allow 'karo kari,' or murder in the name of honour.
