Expressing concern over the "hiccups" in talks between the centre and Hurriyat Conference, National Conference president Omar Abdullah today called for an early resumption of an unconditional dialogue with the amalgam.
"I wonder where the dialogue process is heading to. The Centre is showing no keenness and the Mufti government is showing ignorance to the dialogue process," Omar told PTI.
The talks between the Centre and the Hurriyat Conference ran into rough weather after repeated statements from central leaders that talks would be held only within the framework of Indian Constitution.
He said, "Dialogue had to be an unconditional one but the Centre was now putting in some conditions that were not acceptable to the Hurriyat Conference."
"Talks should be held with a free mind and no condition. We should not pre-judge the situation and rather contribute to the peace process with an open mind," Omar said.
The National Conference president said that it had taken years to bring the separatist amalgam to the dialogue table with the Centre and any wrong move would push the peace process at least a decade back.
Flaying Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, Omar said he was "quick to take responsibility for
dialogue with the NDA-led Government but I wonder why he is silent about the failure".
