Pakistani security agencies have arrested six people in connection with the December 25 assassination bid on President Pervez Musharraf.

They were arrested from a mosque in Lahore, the Daily Times newspaper quoted sources as saying on Sunday.

Four of them belonged to the Jaish-e-Mohammed, or its alias Khudam-ul-Islam or the radical Sunni outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba, which has renamed itself Milat-e-Islamia. The other two had links with the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, the report added.

Musharraf escaped unhurt when two vans entered his convoy and exploded outside a petrol pump in Rawalpindi on December 25.

The attack occurred not far from the spot where terrorists detonated a bomb on December 14 to assassinate him.
