One of the main accused in the killing of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's grandnephew Manish Mishra has been arrested in Chhattisgarh.

"Ramji Verma has been apprehended from Champa town of Janjgir-Champa district," Railway Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Dewangan told PTI in Raipur.

Manish, the grandson of Vajpayee's sister Vimla Mishra, died of injuries sustained after he was thrown out of the Chhattisgarh Express between Mathura and Kosi stations by some youth when he tried to prevent them from teasing girls travelling in the general compartment.

Dewangan said he has informed SSP Mathura (GRP) R K Ray and SSP Agra (GRP) Deepesh Juneja about the arrest of Verma, a resident of Mathura, and has asked them to send a police team to take him into custody or take him to Mathura (where the case has been registered) for further investigation.

The SP said Verma, a small time gold and silver trader, during interrogation revealed that he went to Delhi after the incident and had reached Champa to escape the clutches of the police after he came to know from newspapers of Mishra's relationship with Vajpayee.

Verma apparently in an inebriated state confessed to some persons at Champa about the incident and the information had been passed on to district police who nabbed him, Dewangan said.
