Three debt-ridden farmers have ended their lives by consuming pesticides in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, a senior police officer said on Monday.
E Brahmananda Reddy (40), a farmer with 10 acres of land in Eirikepalli village, had borrowed about Rs 200,000 from a money-lender. He could not repay the loan due to crop failure, police said.
Bolla Babu (35) raised cotton in his six-acre farm in Kothagudem village. He had procured seeds, fertilisers and pesticides worth Rs 100,000 on credit.
In Ingurajala village, N Srinivasa Rao (25) consumed pesticides in his cotton field.
With the death of these farmers, the total number of such suicides in the district has gone up to 63 since May.
