Five of the 21 persons, whose acquittal in the Best Bakery case was quashed by the Supreme Court on Monday, were 'brought to' the Pani Gate police station in Vadodara, Police Commissioner Sudhir Sinha said on Monday night.

"We feared that they might abscond after the ruling. So we searched for them and served them an order to remain present at the police station," he told PTI.

No formal arrests have, however, been made and the accused have been merely served an order under the Bombay Police Act to ensure their presence in the police station.

"They can be kept in the police station for a maximum of 24 hours," Sinha said adding, "Police would execute arrests warrants after they are issued by the court in the wake of the verdict."
