Pakistani forces have launched a crackdown on tribesmen sheltering Al Qaeda and Taliban members in the tribal region of South Waziristan Agency, Pakistan daily Statesman said on Thursday.

The crackdown on Karakhel and Daskhel sub-tribes came after tribesmen failed to heed the three-day deadline to hand over those responsible for hiding terrorists whose hideout was raided last week. Eight terrorists were killed and 18 captured in that raid.

Subsequently, the forces raided an abandoned training camp reportedly organised by the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.

As part of their operations, the security forces have sealed shops and business centres at Wana, owned by members of the two tribes.

The operation was launched on Wednesday and about 32 tribesmen were detained, the paper added.
