Jindal was born and raised in Baton Rouge. His parents had migrated from Punjab. His father, an engineer, came to Louisiana to attend graduate school. His mother is a manager in the state's Department of Labour.
A teenaged convert to Catholicism from Hinduism, he is married to Supriya, who is of Indian descent. They have a 1-year-old daughter Selia Elizabeth.
