Pakistan will not sabotage the peace process with India, Foreign Minister Khurshid M Kasuri assured the United States on Thursday.

He said chances of an agreement with India on the Kashmir issue were bright. "Both India and Pakistan have come to the realisation that the war will not solve any disputes between the two countries," he said.

Kasuri is in Washington to prepare for the visit of President Pervez Musharraf next month.

Referring to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Srinagar speech, he said, "At least Pakistan would do nothing to queer the pitch."

He said foreign ministers of Iran, Afghanistan, China, Russia, Germany, France, Japan, Canada and the US felt the peace process should continue. "The international community is very (much) involved. That is why, when you asked me about my gut feeling... I will say I am optimistic," he said responding to a question.
