Nine Uttar Pradesh legislators of the Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal arrived in Srinagar on Monday evening and were lodged in the Grand Palace Hotel overlooking the world famous Dal Lake.

The MLAs, who withdrew support to the BSP-led government in Uttar Pradesh last week, arrived in a special plane from Delhi and were escorted to the hotel under tight security.

"We are here on a visit. Our arrival has nothing to do with the ongoing political drama in Uttar Pradesh," an RLD MLA told this correspondent on the condition of anonymity.

The state administration has made elaborate security arrangements around the hotel.

Sources said the remaining five RLD MLAs are scheduled to reach on Tuesday.

The arrival of the MLAs follows visit of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi to Kashmir and the conclave of the Congress chief ministers last week.

Sonia had said her party may support the Samajwadi Party headed by Mulayam Singh Yadav to form a new government in Uttar Pradesh.
