Hardline Jamait Ulema-e-Islam chief Fazlur Rahman's recent visit to India has generated a stir within the six-party alliance Mutahidda Majlis-e-Amal and has angered Pakistan-based terrorist outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

Before leaving Pakistan, Rehman had assured his fellow leaders that he would not speak against the alliance's policy on Kashmir, MMA sources said. But his controversial statements on the Line of Control and his opposition to the armed struggle in Kashmir has betrayed the trust that the alliance had reposed in him, they added.

During his visit to India last week, Rehman held talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, besides meeting with top Rashtriya Svayamsevak Sangh  and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders.
