The Liberhan Commission on Thursday pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government for not being prepared with its arguments and for still looking around for copies of evidence related to the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya in 1992.
The commission added that no audio-video cassettes were supplied by the Central Bureau of Investigation and those prepared by some private TV companies were given to it by the government.
Irked by UP Advocate General Satish Chandra Mishra's application seeking adjournment, Justice Liberhan said, "It was very unfair on the part of the AGÂ… when for the past six months I have been requesting everybody to have the copies of the evidence."
The commission accepted Mishra's repeated plea and fixed July 24 and 25 to hear the arguments on behalf of the government.
Mishra told the commission that there was no intention to delay the proceedings and the role of the state government was clear, i.e neutral.
"We are here to assist the inquiry," he said.
