INTERNATIONAL NEWS Musharraf at Camp David Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf became the first South Asian leader to be accorded a welcome at Camp David, the US presidential retreat, on June 24. An invitation to Camp David is considered a rare honour and was purportedly bestowed on Musharraf in recognition of the general's support to the US war on terror. At Camp David, Bush offered aid to Pakistan, but the offer of $3 billion in developmental aid was linked to Islamabad's continuing assistance to the war against terror, a commitment that Pakistan would not promote or indulge in nuclear proliferation, and promises to stay on the path to democracy. The US politely rejected the general's wish for new F-16 aircraft.
