Pottermania!

Pottermania gripped the world with the June 21 release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. With five million copies being sold on the first day in the US, it broke all publishing records and added considerably to author J K Rowling's £350 million fortune. It beat the previous record held by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which sold 3 million copies over a weekend three years ago.

The books have spawned a multi-billion dollar industry. Warner Brothers, who made movies from the first two books, grossed nearly $1.9 billion.

Rowling and her publishers had to deal with efforts to pirate the Harry Potter franchise, with an unauthorized electronic edition of the book going up within hours of its release. In China, an anonymous author released a fake 'Harry Potter And Leopard Walk Up To Dragon,' claiming it was the fifth book in the Potter series.
