Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri on Friday said there was no "unilateral abandonment" of Pakistan's position on UN resolutions on the Kashmir issue.
On Thursday, President Pervez Musharraf had told Reuters news agency that Pakistan had "left aside" its demand of the implementation of the UN resolutions.
But Kasuri said what Musharraf meant was that the resolutions had not been implemented. "It does not mean that Pakistan has unilaterally dropped its demand based on UN resolutions."
He told official APP agency that all Musharraf meant was that Pakistan was "for UN Security Council resolutions" for a lasting and durable solution to the Kashmir issue.
"But if Pakistan and India wanted to resolve this issue, both sides needed to talk to each other with flexibility, going beyond their stated positions, meeting halfway somewhere," the minister said.
Asked whether Pakistan was ready to drop its demand, Kasuri replied, "No".
Musharraf, in fact, would prefer the dispute to be resolved on the basis of the resolutions, he said.
"The president's remarks should be seen in their entire context," he said.
