Security tightened in Orissa in view of bandh

Giridhar Gopal in Bhubaneswar

Security has been tightened across Orissa in view of the bandh called by all political parties, except the Bharatiya Janata Party, to protest against the privatisation of Nalco, state Director General of Police N C Padhi said on Thursday.

"We have deployed 100 platoons of police... to prevent any untoward situation," he told rediff.com.

The corporate office of Nalco at Bhubaneswar has been given special security cover, he said.

The parties have said that the bandh will have no effect on essential services like health, water supply and electricity.
