Violence continues in Gujarat, curfew
in force

Communal violence continued unabated in parts of Gujarat on Thursday, even as army and paramilitary forces maintained a strict vigil.

Police opened fire to disperse mobs setting fire to shops and houses in Anand and Khambhatt towns of central Gujarat, compelling authorities to a impose curfew.

The police also fired on arsonists in Sarkhej locality of Ahmedabad. Curfew was clamped in the area.

Two persons were injured in stabbing incidents in Anand while in Ahmedabad, a body of a man was recovered from a drain in Jamalpur area, the police said.

Some houses were also set ablaze by mobs in Ramol village, they said.

Border Security Force and Rapid Action Force were deployed at many riot-hit places, including Ahmedabad, Viramgam, Prantij and Himatnagar.

Indefinite curfew continued in Viramgam, Prantij and Himatnagar, while it was relaxed in Modasa town, Jambusar, Chhota Udaipur, Borsad and Baroda.
