Indefinite curfew continues in parts of Ahmedabad

Police burst tear gas shells to disperse a mob setting fire to houses in Gomtipur area of Ahmedabad on Friday night while stone pelting was reported from Khanpur area after tension mounted following rumours about an attack, police said.

However, the situation was under control, they added.

Indefinite curfew continued on Friday without any relaxation in Kalupur, Dariapur, Shahpur and Karanj police station areas, which had witnessed violence on Thursday resulting in the death of six persons and injuries to 15 others, police said.

The situation is under control and peaceful, they said.

Reports from other parts of the state said that no untoward incident has so far been reported from the violence-hit areas of Baroda, Bharuch, Himatnagar and Modasa during the last 24 hours, they said.
