Godhra attack meant to destabilise Gujarat: Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the attack on the Sabarmati Express in Godhra was part of a conspiracy to destabilise the state and weaken its economy.

Replying to a debate in the assembly on the budgetary demands of the home department, which were later passed by voice vote, Modi also alleged that there was an attempt to malign the state in the world arena.

He said the opposition Congress was 'sidelining' the ghastly attack on the train in which 58 people, mostly karsevaks returning from Ayodhya, were killed.

The Godhra incident was a "blot" on humanity and there should not be any differences of opinion on it, he said.
