United States Secretary of State Colin Powell spoke to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Monday night and expressed 'serious concern' over the attack on a church in Islamabad on Sunday, US state department spokesman Richard Boucher said.
Boucher said that Musharraf assured Powell that Pakistan is committed to tracking down the attackers, who killed five people, including two American citizens.
He said, "Pakistan was making every effort to swiftly identify the perpetrators of this crime and to bring them to justice as well as to protect Americans and other foreigners who live there."
The US government has condemned the assault as a 'barbaric and cowardly terrorist attack on civilians' and warned US citizens to guard against fresh attacks.
Musharraf called a top-level meeting of provincial governors and police chiefs to discuss the security situation in Pakistan following the attack.
