One dead, two injured in Bharuch

One person, who was injured in the violence in Bharuch during Monday afternoon, succumbed to his injuries later in the night.

Police sources in Ahmedabad said that the victim died of head injuries.

Besides this, one person was injured in a stabbing incident and another in police firing in Baruch where indefinite curfew was clamped following sporadic incidents of stone-throwing and arson.

However, the overall situation in Gujarat remained peaceful, allowing the state government to conduct examinations for class X and XII students at all centres, except in Baroda and Ahmedabad.

Situation in the violence-hit cities of Baroda and Ahmedabad was tense but under control.

Five persons were injured when police opened fire and burst teargas shells to contain violent mobs in Hathikhana and Fethwadi areas of Baroda.

Some kiosks were set on fire by the mob in Hathikhana area, police said.

The BSF and the army continued flag marches in the curfew-bound areas of Baroda while they patrolled the streets and lanes of Ahmedabad too where at least six police station areas - Kalupur, Dariapur, Shahpur, Karanj, Madhavpura and Danilimada - were under curfew.

In Ahmedabad, police had to burst teargas shells to disperse an all-women mob in curfew-bound Kalupur area.
