Five killed in Pak church attack

K J M Varma in Islamabad

Five people, including two Americans, were killed and 47 injured, while an Indian high commission staffer escaped unhurt, in a grenade attack on Sunday on a protestant church near the Indian and US embassies in Islamabad.

Some diplomats and their families were among those attending the Sunday mass at the International Protestant Church when the attack took place.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants threw two to three grenades at the congregation.

The church is located in the heavily-guarded diplomatic enclave, where embassies of several countries, including India, the United States of America, China and Russia are located.
