Congress accuses BJP of making speculative comments

Shahid K Abbas in New Delhi

The Congress party on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of making 'speculative statements' on the Godhra carnage.

"While there is an imperative necessity to find out the elements responsible for the ghastly incident in Godhra it will be irresponsible to indulge into speculation," Congress chief spokesman S Jaipal Reddy said.

Expressing surprise at BJP president Jana Krishnamurthy 's observation about ISI's hand in the Godhra incident, Reddy said that it was not proper to comment on the Godhra incident when the state government has ordered a judicial inquiry to ascertain the facts.

He said that Krishnamurthy's observations were irresponsible for two reasons.

"Firstly, it was not for the BJP president to say what the home ministry was thinking and, secondly, he was only referring to the speculations of the home ministry and not referring to any fact," he said.
