Arrest Ashok Singhal: Laloo to Centre

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and former chief minister of Bihar Laloo Prasad Yadav said on Saturday that Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ashok Singhal should be arrested in order to maintain peace and harmony in the country

"The government should arrest VHP workers and leaders, including its (international) working president Ashok Singhal, to maintain communal harmony," he said.

The Sangh Parivar outfit was responsible for the violence and killings in Gujarat following the burning of karsevaks in Godhra, he said.

Blaming Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for failing to control his party workers in Gujarat, he said the state government's "delayed" reaction to the violence was deliberate.

The Centre must take action against the Narendra Modi government to prove "its impartial stand", the RJD chief said.

He also said that the violence in the state was a result of intelligence failure. However, Yadav said that imposition of President 's rule was not a solution and that the matter needed to be tackled with administrative firmness.
