33 people burnt alive near Godhra

Members of a funeral procession on Friday evening burnt alive at least 33 people at Bakor-Pandarwada village, 70 km from Godhra, official sources said.

The funeral procession turned into a rampaging mob, apparently to avenge the death of three people earlier in the day.

Hindus and Muslims clashed at two places in Godhra, the sources said. "The situation is hardly improving as the people are constantly engaged in communal violence and settling scores," they added.

The police opened fire to disperse rampaging mobs at different places. At least 40 huts were set ablaze by a group of people at Natapur village in Marvadar taluka. The police fired seven rounds and burst four teargas shells to disperse the mob.
