Pakistan to take up at UN alleged
killing of soldier

Pakistan on Monday said it was planning to take up with the United Nations the issue of alleged torture and killing of one of its soldiers by India.

"We are doing the necessary process to take it up with the United Nations," foreign ministry spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan said in Islamabad.

"Incidents like it could spark a major crisis at the borders," he said, describing the current Indo-Pak situation as "tense and dangerous".

Pakistan had alleged that Lance Corporal Naik Maqsood was tied up, interrogated "by third degree methods" and shot after being dragged from the no-man's land between the two countries.

However, India said Maqsood was shot while trying to cross over into its territory.
