Modi is a hero of Hindutva: VHP

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad, whose activists were accused of engineering communal riots in Gujarat, on Wednesday dubbed Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a hero of Hindutva.

"Modi has emerged as the third hero of Hindutva after VHP international working president Ashok Singhal and Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray," the outfit's international general secretary Praveen Togadia said in New Delhi.

He said the "secular media" by constantly blaming Modi for the violence in Gujarat had made him a hero of the community.

Togadia claimed that the elections to the state assembly would be won on the basis of Hindutva.

"It would be a battle between those espousing Hindutva and those against it and the former will win hands down," the firebrand leader said.

He alleged that even Congress workers had openly came out in support of the Hindus during the riots.
