Differences in People's Front over Kalam

Differences cropped up on Tuesday within the People's Front on the National Democratic Alliance presidential nominee A P J Abdul Kalam with a section of the Front insisting on a second term for President K R Narayanan.

Top leaders of the Front comprising Left parties and Samajwadi Party, who met in New Delhi to consider Kalam's nomination for the country's top post decided to meet again in the evening to take a final decision on the issue.

Talking to reporters after the inconclusive meeting, CPI leader A B Bardhan said, "K R Narayanan is still the candidate."
