Charge sheet filed in Naroda Patiya case

The Ahmedabad police on Tuesday filed a charge sheet against 23 people in the Naroda Patiya case.

At least 86 people were killed in Naroda Patiya following the burning of the Sabarmati Express at Godhra on February 27.

However, no Sangh Parivar member figured in the charge sheet filed in a city court, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) S S Chudasama said.

Chudasama said names of three Sangh Parivar activists, Babubhai Rajabhai Patel alias Babu Bajrangi, Parminder Singh Rajput and Kishan Khubhchand Kooranai, and two others, could not be included in the charge sheet as they were still under remand.

He said a supplementary charge sheet would be filed against them soon.

To a question, he said, "No other big name among politicians or VHP [Vishwa Hindu Parishad] leaders figure in the FIR, and therefore it is too early to say whether any big fish will fall in the net."

The charge sheet was filed by the crime branch in the metropolitan court of R I Raval.

On Monday, the police had filed a charge sheet in the Gulbarg Society case.
