Militants attack VIP enclave in Rajouri, take shelter in mosque

In a major strike, seven militants on Wednesday night attacked a high-security residential complex sheltering senior police and civil officials in Rajouri city of Jammu and Kashmir lobbing grenades and firing indiscriminately.

The ultras swooped on the residential complex at around 1945 hours IST, official sources said.

As the special operation group, army and police cordoned the area, the militants fired mortar shells and three of them entered a mosque in the congested area, they said.

More details are awaited.

The complex houses the residences of senior officers like the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner. Former MLC and National Conference leader Bashir Ahmed Lone's residence is also located in the area.
