Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of votes in the presidential electoral college.
But the Left Front's presidential nominee, Colonel Lakshmi Sehgal, would not have polled more than two votes in the election that took place on Monday as only the Communist Party of India-Marxist is represented in the state legislative assembly with two members.
The Communist Party of India failed to bag a single seat in the February assembly election in the state.
Of the 403 members in the electoral college, 397 exercised their franchise.
Of the six missing members, two each belonged to the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, one from the Hindu Mahasabha, and one independent.
Prominent among those who cast their vote in Lucknow was Chief Minister Mayawati and former chief ministers Rajnath Singh and Kalyan Singh.
