Polling ends for presidential election

Polling for the presidential election ended in Parliament House and state assemblies on Monday.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, his Cabinet colleagues and leader of the opposition Sonia Gandhi cast their votes during the daylong polling in Parliament House.

The ballot box in Parliament House was sealed at 1700 hours at the end of the voting in the presence of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan.

A total of 776 MPs and 4,120 MLAs comprise the electoral college for the presidential poll.

Counting of votes will take place on July 18 and the result will be announced the same day.
