Gujarat Cong president, CLP leader resign

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarsinh Chaudhary and Congress Legislature Party leader Naresh Raval on Saturday tendered their resignations to party chief Sonia Gandhi in a move to give her a free hand in reconstituting the state unit and the CLP, highly placed party sources said.

The resignations have come in the wake of reports that party leadership is planning to make changes in the state organisation ahead of the assembly polls due early next year.

Reports had it that Chaudhary had not been 'aggressive enough' to counter the BJP's attempts to polarise votes along communal lines.

Senior party MP Shankarsinh Vaghela is among prominent aspirants for the PCC president's post.
