Senior Orissa Congress leader suspended from party

Giridhar Gopal in Bhubaneswar

Senior Orissa Congress leader Bipin Dash has been suspended from the party for opposing state Congress president Sarat Patnaik.

Dash, a supporter of former chief minister J B Patnaik, had criticised state party leadership in newspapers and in a TV interview last week for the defeat of the party candidate in recently concluded assembly bypoll.

Criticising his statement against the party leadership, the state Congress's youth wing had demanded disciplinary action against Dash.

The party's state disciplinary committee had examined Dash's statements and had recommended action against him.

On the basis of that he has been suspended from the party, state Congress chief Sarat Patnaik told rediff.com.

Dash was the state Congress general secretary when J B Patnaik was its president in 2000.
