MPs to present India's stand on terrorism to other nations

As part of the government's diplomatic initiative, 40 MPs belonging to the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition would visit about a dozen countries to put forward India's position on cross border terrorism and Jammu and Kashmir, which has been plagued by the menace for the past two decades.

The move to depute the MPs, who also include Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Manmohan Singh, CPI-M leader Somnath Chatterjee and BJP spokesman V K Malhotra, is to mobilise international opinion on the growing menace.

The MPs would be visiting the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Malaysia, Indonesia, and several Middle East countries. The modalities for the visit are being worked out by the external affairs ministry, Malhotra said on Wednesday.

The move would show the international community that irrespective of political ideology, "All parties are one as far as the fight against terrorism is concerned," Malhotra said.

During their visit, the MPs would also highlight the December 13 strike on Parliament and the mood among the people of the country following the attack.
