Sporadic violence in Godhra, 66 nabbed

Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from Godhra town, which remained under curfew and other parts of Panchmahal district, even as police nabbed 66 people including two Municipal Councillors in connection with Wednesday's train burning incident.

Unruly mobs set fire to shops and motor garages in Godhra, Lunawara, Limkheda, Kalol, Vaijapur and other areas.

Miscreants also set ablaze some vehicles on the Baroda-Godhra highway.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 66 persons including two Municipal Councillors in connection with Wednesday's incident.

Police are also searching for the president of the Godhra Municipal Council and two other Councillors, whose involvement in the incident they suspect, Godhra district superintendent of police Raju Bhargava said.

Indefinite curfew and shoot-at sight orders, imposed after the attack on the train, remained in force without any relaxation, he said, adding Rapid Action Force and State Reserve Police personnel were deployed in the sensitive areas of the town.
