NC candidate from Baramulla escapes militant attack

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

The ruling National Conference candidate from Baramulla, Ghulam Nabi Kachroo, and his family had a miraculous escape on Wednesday evening when militants attacked his heavily guarded residence with a hand grenade.

Senior police officials, along with reinforcements, rushed to the spot.

This is for the first time that militants have a candidate in, after the notification of the assembly poll by the Election Commission.

The government has provided security to all the candidates of various political parties contesting the election.
